As a long-time board member, even longer Sonos customer, and Chair of the Sonos Board of Directors, I’m writing to share an important leadership update that marks a new chapter for the company we love.
The Board and Patrick have agreed that he will step down as CEO and as a member of the Board of Directors, effective today. Over the past eight years as CEO, Patrick’s leadership guided the development and launch of some of our most celebrated products and drove our expansion into premium home theater. On behalf of the Board, I want to express our gratitude for Patrick’s many contributions.
To lead us through this period, the Board has appointed Tom Conrad as interim CEO, effective immediately. Tom has been an engaged and highly valued member of our Board since 2017, bringing extensive experience as a product leader and a deep understanding of Sonos. Like many of us, Tom’s first introduction to Sonos came through the company’s great products and his connection to the company dates back nearly two decades when he led the integration of Pandora with Sonos in 2007. As interim CEO, Tom’s mandate is to improve the Sonos core experience for our customers, while optimizing our business to drive innovation and financial performance.
Tom’s professional background underscores our confidence in him for this role. As the Chief Technology Officer and EVP of Product at Pandora, he was co-creator of the pioneering music streaming service that revolutionized how the world discovers and listens to music. He later served as VP of Product at Snap Inc., where his leadership solidified Snapchat’s reputation for creativity and user engagement. He also served as the Chief Product Officer of Quibi, a short form streaming service where he helped build the team and product from scratch. Early in his career, Tom worked at Apple, contributing to the foundational user interface of the Macintosh. To take on this work full time, Tom is leaving his role as CEO of Zero Longevity Science, where he has driven significant growth for its subscription digital health platform.
While the Board has initiated a search for a permanent CEO, we are confident that Tom’s leadership will position Sonos for success during this transition. Last year presented real challenges that required real resilience. We are proud of the way our Sonos team rose to meet them, and the positive response to the Arc Ultra and Sub 4 through the holidays reminds us of our ability to deliver extraordinary sound experiences for our customers. Of course, we have a lot to tackle on the road ahead – and also enormous opportunity. As we enter 2025, we're reaffirming our commitment to delighting our customers every time they turn to Sonos while we embrace a renewed vision for the future.
You’ll hear from Tom shortly and please know that the Board is fully committed to supporting his efforts and to ensuring the continued success of Sonos. Thank you for your dedication to our mission and for your confidence as we navigate this exciting new chapter together.
